What I Didn’t Buy at the Thrift Store Today

The problem with shopping at thrift stores for sewing projects is that I am tempted to buy beautiful clothes  in great condition that don’t need any refashioning.   With low prices (especially when there is a sale), it’s very easy to rationalize a purchase, but luckily I have enough discipline to say no and walk away.  Here’s a little collection of things I didn’t buy today.

I’m a sucker for anything with embroidery, especially with flowers.  This little black number would be a great layering piece.

Here’s a close up of the embroidery.  I love how it finishes the edge of the garment.

I was drawn to the bright color on this one.  It’s 100% silk.

Check out the hand embroidery on this one.

I love the dolman sleeves and the waist tie.  It was hard to walk away  from this one.

Did I mention I love florals?  I especially love the water color florals on this top.  It’s 100% silk and in perfect condition.  In retrospect, this could have been a good candidate for a kimono.  Just slice it up the front and refinish the edges.

Another floral top in silk (notice a pattern here?).  I’ve been meaning to do a refashion that involves mixing patterns, so this one is going into my mental file as an inspiration piece.  I often come across tops with interesting patterns but not enough fabric.  This top is a great example of how to use small yardage of different patterns.

Are there any pieces here you think I should go back and get?

I say, all of the above. Your selections are charming. Given the original date of this post, my observation is probably a bit too late. I have just discovered you and already appreciate your keen sense of style.
